Grilled Smash Burger Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend preferred)
- Ground Pounder All-purpose garlic seasoning (to taste)
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- 4 burger buns (brioche or your choice)
- 4 slices of American cheese
- Toppings of your choice (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, etc.)
- Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.)
- Butter (for toasting buns)
Equipment:
- Grill, griddle, or cast iron skillet
- Spatula (preferably a heavy-duty one for smashing the burgers)
- Parchment paper or wax paper (optional, to assist with smashing)
Instructions:
1. Preheat Your Cooking Surface:
- Grill: Preheat to high heat (around 450-500°F).
- Griddle or Cast Iron Skillet: Preheat over medium-high heat until hot.
2. Prepare the Patties:
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions, roughly 4 oz each.
- Roll each portion into a loose ball.
- Season the outside of each ball generously with the all-purpose garlic seasoning, salt, and pepper.
3. Toast the Buns:
- Spread a thin layer of butter on the insides of the burger buns.
- Place the buns, butter side down, on the grill or cooking surface until they are golden brown. Set aside.
4. Cook the Smash Burgers:
- Place the ground beef balls onto the hot grill, griddle, or skillet.
- Using a spatula (and parchment paper if needed), press down firmly on each ball to flatten it into a thin patty. Hold for about 10 seconds to ensure a good sear.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges start to brown and crisp up.
- Flip the patties and immediately place a slice of cheese on each one.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked through.
5. Assemble the Burgers:
- Place each patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun.
- Add your desired toppings and condiments.
- Top with the other half of the bun.
6. Serve:
- Serve immediately while hot and enjoy your delicious smash burgers!
Tips:
- Pressing the patties: Use parchment paper to prevent the spatula from sticking to the meat.
- Cheese melt: Cover the cooking surface briefly with a lid or a metal bowl to help the cheese melt faster.
- Seasoning: The all-purpose garlic seasoning will enhance the flavor, but feel free to add additional spices if desired.
