3 DIY Seasonings & Rubs!
With gift giving season in full swing, it can be difficult to shop for the griller who seems to have it all. Why not give the gift of BBQ! With these easy to make rubs, you can whip up gifts at home in no time.
Simply buy some small bottles or jars from the local store, slap some labels or tags on them, and give them to the grillers in your life! Believe us, your friends and family will love them! Make sure to save some for yourself!

Smoked Salt
Amazing on all types of meats, vegetables, and even popcorn!
Ingredients
- 2 cups coarse salt (sea or kosher)
Charcoal Grill:
- Set up your grill for indirect grilling
- Add 1½ cup of your favorite wood chips
- Spread salt in a thin layer on an aluminum foil pan and place away from the coals
- Cover the grill and smoke the salt at 350F degrees for 30-40 minutes
- Add another 1 ½ cups wood chips to the coals and smoke until the salt is bronzed
- Cool the salt to room temperature and transfer it to a jar, cover, and store
Smoker Method:
- Preheat smoker to 250F
- Add wood as specified by manufacturer
- Spread salt in a thin layer on an aluminum foil pan and place in the smoker
- Smoke salt until bronzed, about 4-6 hours
- Cool the salt to room temperature and transfer it to a jar, cover, and store
Newspaper Rub (Makes 1 cup)
Great on beef ribs and briskets
Ingredients
- ½ cups coarse sea sat
- ½ cups coarse ground black pepper
- ¼ cup red pepper flakes
- Combine all ingredients together in a small bowl.
- Store in a jar away from heat or light
- It will keep for several weeks
Coffee Rub (Makes 4 cups)
Great on all types of meats! Brisket, pork, chicken, you name it!
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups light brown sugar
- 1 cup ground espresso coffee beans
- 1 cup coarse sea salt
- ¼ cup coarse ground black pepper
- ¼ cup granulated garlic
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons ground cayenne pepper
Process
- Combine all ingredients together in a small bowl.
- Store in a jar away from heat or light
- It will keep for several weeks
